10 BABY SAFE BATHING TIPS
Bath time is filled with fun time and splashing as your baby discovers the joys of bath time. However, bath time can also be full of stress when you stop and think about all of the possible dangers that could occur, including slips, bumps, scalding and the worst case scenario, drowning.
Take a look at these 10 baby bath proofing ideas to keep your little one safe during what should be an enjoyable experience.
1. Make sure to never leave a child alone in the bath. Not even just for a moment. If you do need to leave the bathroom, make sure to have somebody else watch the baby during your absence.
2. Set your home water temperature to 120 degrees Fahrenheit max to prevent accidental burns and scalding.
3. Make sure that the bathroom door can be unlocked from the outside at all times. You never want to be locked out of your bathroom at the best of times, and NEVER when your baby is in the tub.
4. Lock away all medicines, cleaning products, cosmetics and any other sharp items or liquids that could be hazardous. Also make sure that medicines and liquids are within containers that are baby proof as an extra measure of safety.
5. Cap electrical outlets with plug covers and make sure that they are protected by ground fault circuit interrupters to safeguard against shocks and electrocution.
6. Ensure that grandparents, friends, and babysitters follow these bathroom safety guidelines should they be involved in bath time
7. To prevent slips, use an anti-slip bath mat. There are plenty on the market and are also great for your own use, particularly if your bath and shower are one and the same.
8. Use a plug cover to keep your little ones fingers away from the plug. How many stories have you heard of firemen having to saw through the drain to remove a child's fingers? (Too many times is the answer.)
9. Lock the garbage can inside a cabinet cupboard.
10. Unplug appliances, such as curling irons, hair dryers and radios before baby bath time, and place them safely out of reach.
